Saturday classes and events on UO Eugene campus cancelled – 12/6 @ 5:19 pm

12/6/13 – 5:19 pm

Due to continuing winter weather conditions, all classes and events scheduled on the University of Oregon Eugene campus for Saturday have been cancelled. If at home, it is recommended that students and others remain at home. For those who must come to campus, walking or riding the LTD bus system is recommended.

The UO provost’s office recognizes that class cancellations on Friday and Saturday have the potential to negatively impact students, and urges faculty to exercise flexibility.

Eugene Campus Events and Classes Suspended After 2pm

12/6/13, 2:00pm

The City of Eugene has notified agencies that some city streets should be avoided, due to weather-related issues:

  • Chambers Street from 24th Avenue to the top of the hill
  • 28th Avenue – Almaden to Chambers
  • Ferry Street Bridge
  • Willamette from 32nd to 35th is shut down
  • Off-ramp from 6th Ave to I-105 is shut down

28th Avenue is currently closed to traffic from Chambers Street to Almaden Street, as several vehicles are stuck in the snow. There were several crashes blocking traffic. City crews are working on a plow truck.  One accident involved a commercial truck that crashed into a car and tree. These have been slow-speed crashes, in which vehicles have slipped or slid into collisions with other vehicles or objects.

Northbound Ferry Street Bridge is closed from its on-ramp at Mill Street and W. 7th Avenue to Coburg Road. A sander is en route. Some vehicles have been unable to go up the ramp, causing traffic to back up onto 7th Avenue.

Additional information can be found on the Register Guard website: http://projects.registerguard.com/school-closings/roads/

UO faculty, staff and students are urged to take adequate time to travel home, and commute carefully and safely.

Members of the campus community are expected to use their best judgment in assessing the risk of coming to campus and returning home, based on individual circumstances.
