Sunday Campus Status

The University of Oregon campus will remain limited to essential operations through Sunday; all events that had been scheduled for the day have been canceled. Knight Library will reopen at 8:30 a.m. Sunday and will resume its normal hours.

Crews are working diligently to reopen campus for regular operations on Monday morning; please check the UO Alerts blog for updates.

Due to extreme cold conditions forecast for the next 24 to 48 hours, students and others are urged to dress appropriately and limit their exposure to the cold. Frost bite can occur in less than 30 minutes, and hypothermia can lead to disorientation and death.

The City of Eugene is under an ice-snow emergency and driving conditions remain hazardous. The public is advised that if they don’t need to travel, to stay home.   If you do have to come to campus, please use extreme caution and consider using LTD.

•    Black Student Union Kwanzaa Event at the Erb Memorial Union
•    UO Gospel Choirs and Ensembles 30th Anniversary Concert at the Beall Concert Hall

Extreme Temperatures & Safety Measures

Extremely cold temperatures tonight into Sunday morning are expected to be in the single digits. Those who must be outside should dress in adequate clothing and minimize exposure. Frost bine can occur in less than 30 minutes and hypothermia may occur if precautions aren’t taken.

Warning signs of hypothermia include:

  • shivering/exhaustion
  • confusion/fumbling hands
  • memory loss/slurred speech
  • drowsiness

Saturday update: Knight Library reopens; classes and events cancelled

The Student Recreation Center will be open today until 4:00 pm.

Please note that the Erb Memorial Union (EMU) is closed today, Saturday, December 7th.

The University of Oregon’s Knight Library will reopen from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, to accommodate students’ study needs heading into finals week.

Due to continuing winter weather and hazardous driving conditions, however, it is recommended that all students and others remain at home. For those who must come to campus, walking or riding the LTD bus system is recommended. Snow is being removed from
walking routes around campus; parking lots have not been cleared.

Students and others are reminded that all classes and events scheduled for today on the UO campus in Eugene have been cancelled.
