It’s a good time to travel by foot, bike or bus, and to be extra alert: a busy month of traffic and parking around the University of Oregon is here, and a new website will help people stay on top of the changes.

The Campus GIS and Mapping Program will have updated maps for any day during the activities at http://arcg.is/1Ry8ghN

Annual move-out of nearly 4,000 students from the UO residence halls runs Monday, June 6 through Friday, June 10; the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be at Hayward Field Wednesday, June 8 through Saturday, June 11; and UO Commencement is Monday, June 13. Then preparations begin for the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials: construction around Hayward Field lasts through June, with the Trials spanning July 1-10.

Already, since May 29, traffic on 15th Avenue from Agate Street to Onyx Street is limited to one-way westbound. For Commencement on June 13, 13th Avenue from University Street east to Franklin Boulevard and Matthew Knight Arena will be closed for the Commencement Procession. Other changes and closures will come fast.

UO faculty and staff should be aware of increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic around the residence halls and Hayward Field. Everyone in the university community is encouraged to use alternate transportation whenever possible. Drivers should avoid 13th and 15th avenues, as well as parking lots located near residence halls.

Changes to traffic patterns include:

  • 15th Avenue from Agate Street to Onyx Street is one-way westbound from May 29-June 5 and again June 14-23; two-way as normal June 6-7 and June 11-13.
  • 15th Avenue from Agate Street to University Street is one-way westbound from June 8-10, and open only to residence hall move-out traffic.
  • Starting June 25, most of the campus portions of 15th Avenue and Agate Street will be closed.
  • Starting June 28, 18th Avenue from Agate Street to University Street will be closed.

University parking maps and information are at the Department of Parking and Transportation (parking.uoregon.edu).

Be cautious and plan ahead for the busy roads, but don’t forget to offer smiles, congratulations and a helping hand to our families, visitors and especially, our departing students!
