Heat Information

July 31, 2017 – 5:44 pm

Below is messaging regarding upcoming heat this week for faculty and for staff.

Messaging for Faculty

Dear Colleagues,
Over the next few days, Eugene will be experiencing very high temperatures.  If you are teaching courses in rooms without adequate cooling, please work with your departmental scheduler, who will coordinate with the Office of the Registrar, to find an alternative location for your class.  This is particularly important if you are teaching in the afternoons on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.
Best Regards,
Michael Jefferis
Assistant Registrar for Operations

Messaging for Staff

Colleagues,
The current weather forecast indicates Eugene and Portland will experience severe temperatures over 100˚ most of this week. We recognize that these extreme temperatures may significantly impact some workspaces and employees across campus, which may affect normal operations. HR has reached out to supervisors to provide guidance during this period of inclement weather. Please be in communication with your supervisor if you have concerns about your workspace or assignments this week.
The university is expected to remain open as usual for the remainder of the week. As with other inclement weather events, employees who are unable to report to work because of the extreme weather may use accrued vacation, compensatory time, exchange time, personal leave, or leave without pay to cover the missed work time, if applicable. Use of accrued sick leave is appropriate only in the case of illness.
If you have any specific questions about how the weather may impact your work unit, please speak with your supervisor, or contact Human Resources at 541-346-3159 or through our hrinfo@uoregon.edu email.
Best regards,
Nancy Resnick
Chief Human Resources Officer and Associate Vice President
