UOPD issues all clear after suspicious package reported in PLC

The University of Oregon Police Department has issued the “all clear” for Prince Lucien Campbell Hall, after a faculty member reported a suspicious package had been received on May 22.

UOPD first cleared the faculty member’s department, housed on a lower level of the building. In coordination with the Eugene Police Department’s bomb squad, other sections of the building were also evacuated as a precaution.

A short time later, the suspicious package was deemed harmless and the “all clear” was given.

“While ultimately not an actual threat, the faculty member did the right thing in contacting police,” said Mathew Carmichael, chief of police. “The package had suspicious markings and was sent without request from somewhere in the mid-west, adding to the faculty member’s concern. Community members reporting these types of incidents is imperative to keeping our campus safe. See something, say something.”

PLC and the surrounding area were returned to normal operations by 5:15 p.m.
