Lane County has issued a number of evacuation orders for the Thurston and Walterville areas north and south of the McKenzie River. There are currently no orders for the cities of Eugene or Springfield.
If evacuation orders were to be issued for near-campus areas, the university would notify students with its UO Alert text notification system (alerts start with “UO Alert” and come from 89361). Additionally, Lane County has a reverse 911 system that should ping phones within the geographic or adjacent boundaries that are subject to any evacuation orders. You may be receiving these County evacuation messages already even if you live outside of the evacuation zones.
The air quality in the metro area is currently listed as “very unhealthy” due to wildfire smoke. Residents should stay indoors if possible. We will continue to the monitor the situation and will provide updates as needed.
