Should you encounter a student with symptoms of Norovirus, please encourage them to contact the University Health Center. If you experience symptoms yourself, please contact your preferred health care provider.

The Lane County Public Health Department and the University Health Center have seen an increase in the number of student patients being seen with symptoms of gastroenteritis. We are encouraging all members of the UO community to be diligent in washing their hands, disinfecting high-touch surfaces, and being proactive about personal health. We have confirmed several cases as Norovirus.

What is Norovirus?

Norovirus is a virus that can spread from an infected person, contaminated food or water or contaminated surfaces, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The virus is very contagious. It can cause stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, but is generally non-life threatening.

What if I have these symptoms?

If you are experiencing these symptoms please contact the University Health Center at 541-346-2770 at any time to be speak to a triage nurse about your symptoms. If you have seen a clinician and have already been diagnosed with Norovirus we recommend you avoid public areas until your symptoms are resolved for at least 24 hours.

What is the university doing?

The university is currently monitoring the situation with local health officials and is working to educate campus about precautions. Additional cleaning measures are being taken in high-traffic areas.
