Monday Campus Update

12/8/13, 5:30pm

The University of Oregon campus in Eugene will resume its regular operational schedule at 10 a.m. Monday, December 9th.

Final exams scheduled on Monday at 8 a.m., 6 p.m. and 7 p.m, will be rescheduled; those students and faculty who are affected will be notified via email and the revised schedule for those exams will be posted later this evening to this website. Finals exams scheduled to start at 10:15 a.m. or later, and those ending by 5:15 p.m., will continue as scheduled. Law School exams will take place as scheduled; students who cannot make it to campus for safety reasons can take their Monday 8:30 a.m. exams at 10 a.m.

It is understood that not everyone will be able to travel to campus due to continuing inclement weather. Members of the campus community are expected to use their best judgment in assessing the risk of coming to campus and returning home, based on individual circumstances. Students should work with their instructors and staff with their supervisors if they cannot safely get to exams and work. Faculty members not able to travel to campus are responsible for making alternate arrangements for proctoring exams.

Campus Operations custodial staff scheduled to work overnight (Sunday – Monday) should not report tonight (Dec 8), but all Campus Operations morning shift employees should report for their normal times on Monday.

Please use extreme caution when traveling to and from campus; riding the LTD bus system is recommended.

Updates on delays and cancellations will be posted on this website.

Eugene Campus Events and Classes Suspended After 2pm

12/6/13, 2:00pm

The City of Eugene has notified agencies that some city streets should be avoided, due to weather-related issues:

  • Chambers Street from 24th Avenue to the top of the hill
  • 28th Avenue – Almaden to Chambers
  • Ferry Street Bridge
  • Willamette from 32nd to 35th is shut down
  • Off-ramp from 6th Ave to I-105 is shut down

28th Avenue is currently closed to traffic from Chambers Street to Almaden Street, as several vehicles are stuck in the snow. There were several crashes blocking traffic. City crews are working on a plow truck.  One accident involved a commercial truck that crashed into a car and tree. These have been slow-speed crashes, in which vehicles have slipped or slid into collisions with other vehicles or objects.

Northbound Ferry Street Bridge is closed from its on-ramp at Mill Street and W. 7th Avenue to Coburg Road. A sander is en route. Some vehicles have been unable to go up the ramp, causing traffic to back up onto 7th Avenue.

Additional information can be found on the Register Guard website: http://projects.registerguard.com/school-closings/roads/

UO faculty, staff and students are urged to take adequate time to travel home, and commute carefully and safely.

12/6/13, 12:00pm

Those employees with essential responsibilities (such as Housing and Campus Operations) should check with their supervisors. Released employees will be paid for their normal hours.

All faculty, staff and students are urged to use caution and be safe in traveling from campus to their homes.

A decision on scheduled weekend events will be made later today.

Power Outage Q&A

Power Outage Q&A

What happened today?
A power failure occurred in the southwest section of the University of Oregon campus.  A series of malfunctions were reported from the underground tunnels that deliver utility services through the 295-acre campus. As a result, intermittent power outages occurred and some buildings continue to be without power.

No one was injured in the incident that resulted in visible smoke above ground and inside the University Health Center. The University Health Center was evacuated and a two-block section of Agate Street, from 13th to 15th Avenues, was closed for approximately two hours.

What is the university doing to fix the problem?
Campus Operations is working as quickly as possible to restore electricity to all affected buildings and many are back up and running at this time.  However, several buildings are still without power, including many UO Housing residence and dining halls, including Carson Hall, Hamilton Hall, Bean Hall, Living Learning Center, Earl Hall and Walton Hall. University Housing is working with campus officials to restore power as quickly as possible.
