UO Eugene Campus is open and operating on Thursday, Jan. 18.  

We recognize that the community is recovering from severe weather. Should you anticipate issues: 

  • Instructors should consult their respective Associate Dean.  
  • Non-instructional employees should consult their supervisor.  
  • Students should contact their instructors.

Be cautious on campus and follow safety guidance. Stay clear of areas marked with caution tape. Avoid trees and tree-covered routes.

On Campus  

  • Housing Residential Dining is operating at Barnhart, Carson, Unthank, and Global Scholars Hall. Regular hours. Menu selection may be limited as food deliveries have been delayed.             
  • The Student Rec Center is open regular hours. Expect larger crowds as SRC is open to all UO community members for showers while power outages continue throughout the area. A bottle filler will be available outside SRC on Thursday for people with frozen pipes needing drinkable water. 
  • The Housing Service Centers are open.
  • The EMU is open to all to warm up and for electricity. Food vendors schedules may vary based on staffing.  
  • Campus parking lots are open but expect ice and standing water.  
  • Store trash appropriately. Garbage trucks have not been running and the dumping facility remains closed through Thursday.  
  • Continue to be extremely careful on and around campus. Ice covers most surfaces. It will take days to melt, and some is covered with standing water. Be especially cautious on steps and in shaded areas. Stay on sidewalks when possible.

Off Campus                      

  • Roads and sidewalks throughout Eugene and Springfield continue to be ice covered and many trees have fallen. Some traffic lights are out because of power outages, and should be treated as a four way stop. Use your best judgement to travel safely. Check TripCheck.com for road conditions throughout Oregon.   
  • LTD service resumes at 9 a.m. on Thursday.  

Student Care  

  • If you live off campus and are without power/heat, the Rec Center, EMU and Dining Halls are good options for warmth and electricity. The Eugene Library and other community warming centers may also be available.   
  • A bottle filler will be available outside SRC on Thursday for those needing water. 
  • If the inclement weather has had a significant impact on you financially, you may be eligible for reimbursement from the UO Students in Crisis Fund. Funds are limited and offered on a one-time basis should the financial impact impede on your academic success.  

Employees 

  • On Thursday, January 18 and Friday, January 19, the Student Recreation Center will be open during its standard operating hours. Employees and their families are welcome to use shower facilities (members and non-members).  
    • Bring your UO ID.  
    • Employees need to accompany family members.   
    • Showers are free, but if you are not an SRC member, you will need to purchase a day pass if you’d like to use the exercise facilities.  
  • The Student Recreation Center will also have a water bottle filling station available outside, for those who do not have drinkable water at home. Please bring your own containers.   
  • The EMU and UO Libraries facilities are public buildings and will be open during their normal operating hours.

UO Alert Portland: Opening at 10 a.m., 1/17/24

UO Portland campuses will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 17th. Classes scheduled to begin prior to 10 a.m. are canceled.

Supervisors and faculty should be reasonably understanding and flexible regarding a student’s or staff member’s individual needs during inclement weather. Members of the campus community are expected to use their best judgment in assessing the risk of coming to campus when the campus is open.
